“Wait, what are you doing again?”
Well, that’s a great question, thanks for asking! My program is called “Instructional Systems Technology.” It’s also sometimes called “Education Technology,” “Instructional Technology,” and “Instructional Design.” They’re all basically the same things, with some minor definitional differences depending on who you ask.
Exciting stuff, right? Don’t worry, I’ll continue…
So, the next question that generally follows for me is, “what do you want to do with that degree?” At this point, I’m not exactly sure. There are a ton of possibilities both in the public and private sector, in education and in business. Here are some potential ideas: College professor, researcher, instructional consultant, educational technology designer, district technology coordinator, and so on. Basically anything that involves instructional design, technology, or education in general is pretty much open.
Overall, it’s an absolutely excellent program which I am thrilled to be a part of. We’ve got a world class faculty, and I have awesome peers in the program with me. And I just landed a sweet side job at Veerwest where I’ll be helping them design instructional materials for their software. All and all, Bloomington has been more than kind to me so far, and I really hope you guys can make it out for a visit at some point! I’ll have the air mattress waiting!
Next time, I’ll take you on a tour of the city, the program, and my new place! Thanks for reading!
